The residential building on Building Lot 12, which faces the park, is a wooden house. Its floor area and height are specified by the Erlenmatt Ost master plan. The commitment to sustainable construction is comprehensive: the choice of wood as a renewable building material is combined with a consistent separation of systems, beginning with the distinction between the structural and spatial frameworks. The wooden skeleton has four load-bearing axes with longitudinal joists. These rest on supports with a fork, so that each support stands on top of another. The ceiling panels are spanned with stacked board elements and weighted down with fill material. The non-load-bearing interior walls are also made of wood.
Apartments with many rooms offer space for families or shared living arrangements. The «many» rooms are grouped around an inner hall. Doors opening transversely create diagonal views and orient the interior spaces toward the courtyard and the park. The wooden surfaces define the atmosphere of the apartments—an almost «alpine» living experience.
Muntin windows serve as primary elements defining the architectural expression. The cladding of the opaque facade sections consists of carbonized wood shingles, which blend in behind the light-colored windows and metal components made of hot-dip galvanized steel.
